HOW DO I CONCEIVE TEACHING EFL?

Well, at the beginning I thought that teaching practicum was going to be an easy subject during all this semester and just do my practices, teach people and that´s it. But I have realized that teaching EFL students is not an easy job because even though most of the students want to learn English, they don´t like to practice it and it is kind of challenging for us make them speak English. Finally, I can say that even though teaching English is very hard but it is a good way to guide others and to learn a lot from them.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE TEACHER IN EL EFL CLASSROOM?

The role of the teacher in an EFL classroom is first of all to be a “motivator” because every student is motivated in a different way in every class and is the teacher who will help them fit into an English speaking community. A teacher has to be a “controller” in order to have everything in order in a class. An “assessor” to be constantly checking homework and giving feedback to his students. A “coach” to encourage the students to play an active role during all the process of teaching, etc. I consider that there are a lot of roles that the teacher can perform in a classroom, it depends on the environment he or she is going to be with the students.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE STUDENTS IN AN EFL CLASSROOM?

The role of the students is to be a collaborative and active in the classroom because they are interested in learning another language. I think that the teacher can play many roles in the classroom but if the students do not want to get involve in the class it is not going work at all. So, the role of the student is very important and necessary in the classroom because that is the way in which they will learn English.

WHAT ARE MY EXPECTATIONS OF AN EFL CLASSROOM?

Well, my expectations are to learn more and new things every single day I will be teaching my students. Every day has a new experience and we learn from experiences. I know that it is not going to be an easy job but I think that if I try to do my best every day I will reach my goal and I will be proud of my students looking at the results when I listen to them speaking English. I hope to be very good teacher in an EFL classroom putting into practice what I have learn all this years and months during my practices and I also hope my students to be happy and proud of me too.
